Homemade Guacamole

In a world where store-bought versions are just a grocery trip away, it's easy to forget how incredibly simple—and much healthier—it is to make your own guacamole at home.

Many store-bought guacamoles are packed with preservatives, artificial flavors, and added oils to extend shelf life. But when you make it yourself, you get the real thing: pure, fresh ingredients, vibrant flavors, and the satisfaction of knowing exactly what you're eating. Plus, it takes less than 10 minutes from start to finish!

Today, I'm sharing my go-to homemade guacamole recipe—simple, nourishing, and absolutely delicious.

Tips for the Best Homemade Guacamole

  • Choose ripe avocados: They should feel slightly soft when gently squeezed but not mushy.

  • Use fresh lime juice: Bottled lime juice doesn’t have the same brightness.

  • Serve fresh: Guacamole is best enjoyed immediately, but if you must store it, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to minimize browning.

  • Keep it simple: Let the fresh ingredients shine without overpowering them with too many extras.

Homemade guacamole is a small thing you can do for yourself that feels like a real treat. It’s proof that fresh, whole foods don’t need a lot of fuss to be truly satisfying. Once you try making it yourself, you might find it hard to ever go back to store-bought.

So grab a few avocados and get mashing—fresh, delicious guacamole is just minutes away!

RECIPE

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe avocados

  • 4 tablespoons red onion, finely chopped

  • ½ jalapeño, deseeded and finely chopped

  • A handful of fresh cilantro, chopped

  • 3 tablespoons lime juice

  • 1 teaspoon pink Himalayan salt

  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper

  • 6 cherry tomatoes, seeds removed and finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the avocados: Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a large bowl.

  2. Mash: Using a fork or potato masher, gently mash the avocado to your preferred consistency—smooth or slightly chunky.

  3. Add the flavors: Stir in the finely chopped red onion, jalapeño, and cilantro.

  4. Season: Add the lime juice, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything together until well combined.

  5. Fold in the tomatoes: Gently stir in the chopped cherry tomatoes, being careful not to over-mix.

  6. Taste and adjust: Taste your guacamole and adjust the seasoning if needed. Add a bit more lime, salt, or pepper to your liking.

  7. Serve immediately: Enjoy fresh with tortilla chips, veggie sticks, or as a topping for your favorite dishes.

How to Keep Guacamole Fresh and Green

Guacamole is best enjoyed fresh, but if you need to store it, here’s how to keep it from browning:

  • Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole to minimize air exposure.

  • Add a thin layer of lime juice on top before covering it. The acidity helps slow oxidation.

  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator and enjoy within 1–2 days for best flavor and color.

Freshness is key — and a little extra lime can go a long way in keeping your guacamole vibrant and delicious!
