Baharat (Turkish spice mix)

Baharat is a warm, aromatic Middle Eastern and Turkish spice blend used to season meats, rice, soups, and stews. The word baharat means "spices" in Arabic, and its exact ingredients vary by region and household.

This spice mix is often used for seasoning kebabs, grilled meats, rice pilafs, soups, and vegetable dishes. It can also be blended with olive oil for a flavorful marinade. Since recipes vary, you can adjust the ingredients to suit your taste preferences.

  • The ingredients for Turkish baharat can vary slightly from household to household, so feel free to customize your spice mix to your liking;

  • Use on meats, rice pilaf, kebabs, or grilled vegetables;

  • You can make Turkish kofta (meatballs or hamburgers) the same way you make your meatballs or hamburgers- add 1 Tbsp of baharat spice for 2 lbs of ground meat of choice (chicken, lamb, mushrooms, or soy meat).
